20-year-old gets prison in Kenosha killing

KENOSHA, Wis. — A 20-year-old man has been sentenced to life in prison for a drug-related killing in Kenosha.

Prosecutor Robert Zapf says Teddy Bieker and two other men followed the lead of John Navigato and confronted 50-year-old Robin Leydel in his home in October 2009, apparently about drugs. As Navigato initiated a scuffle with the unarmed Leydel, Bieker shot him.

Bieker was convicted of first-degree murder, armed robbery, home invasion and burglary.

The Kenosha News reports (http://bit.ly/mhtoNH ) Bieker asked the judge for mercy and a second chance at the sentencing hearing Monday. He apologized to Leydel's widow Susan Leydel.

Bieker was sentenced to life in prison without parole until he is at least 50 — the same age as Leydel when he died.
