Judson’s Dimiceli garners more recognition
Judson University senior softball player Nicole Dimiceli has become the school’s first softball player to be recognized on a national level by the NAIA.
Dimiceli, a Lake Park graduate, was named honorable mention and is one of just 61 softball players nationwide recognized by the NAIA this season.
Dimiceli has also become the program’s first CoSIDA Academic All-American as she was voted to the second team. CoSIDA is the national organization for college sports information directors. She is one of only eight NAIA players to be recognized and 34 athletes nationwide in NCAA Division II, Division III and NAIA softball.
She graduated in May with a degree in physical education and health and a GPA of 3.79.
Dimiceli, who helped Judson to its first softball conference championship in program history this seasom, holds program career records for hits, runs scored, doubles, home runs and RBI. She was a four-time CCAC first-team selection as well as a four-time NCCAA All-American. She also earned two NAIA and two NCCAA scholar-athlete awards in her time at Judson.
Track and field
Judson at NAIA nationals: Six Judson University athletes competed recently at the NAIA National Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Marion, Ind. Caleb Sutton had the strongest showing for the Eagles as he tied for fourth place in the high jump at 6 feet, 8¾ inches. He ended up finishing 10th based on number of misses. Sara Dede finished 18th in the women’s triple jump and the Eagle women’s 3,200 relay team took 23rd place.
Baseball
Judson awards: The Judson University baseball team had five players recognized as NCCAA All-Americans. Johnny Amanm (Jacobs), Nate Rohl, T.J. Swank (Prairie Ridge) and Nick Krisman were all named to the first team and Brian Brauer (Streamwood) was named to the second team. Judson won a program record 42 games this season.
