Barrington police increase July 4 patrols

Barrington police Thursday announced the start of a late-night enforcement crackdown targeting impaired drivers over the July Fourth weekend.

The Barrington department will be joining the Illinois State Police and nearly 300 other departments in the statewide enforcement effort. More than $1 million in federal highway safety funds will be put toward the campaign to keep Illinois roads safe through the weekend.

Data shows that during last year’s July Fourth weekend, 10 people lost their lives in motor vehicle accidents and seven of those fatalities involved a drinking driver. Another 780 people were injured in motor vehicle crashes that weekend.
