Slate of Wis. recall challengers nearly complete

MADISON, Wis. — The slate of challengers for three upcoming Wisconsin recall elections is nearly finalized.

Only a few steps remain before the list of candidates is confirmed.

Six GOP state senators are being targeted for supporting Republican Gov. Scott Walker's efforts to remove collective-bargaining rights from most public workers. Three Democratic senators are being targeted for fleeing the state to stall the measure.

Challengers to the six Republican incumbents have already been finalized.

On the other side, six people have filed nomination papers to oppose the three Democrats. Any challenges to those nominations have to be filed by Friday at 4:30 p.m. That's also the deadline for the six challengers to submit financial-disclosure information.

State election officials will rule on any challenges by Monday. After that, the list of challengers will be official.
