St. Charles hosts online trivia challenge

Submitted by St. Charles Park District

How well do you know St. Charles? Do you have a photographic memory of the parks around the city?

To kick off its year of 100th anniversary events, the St. Charles Park District is sponsoring two online trivia contests that will test residents’ — and visitors’ — knowledge of the nearly 1,500-acre park district.

Throughout the year, contest participants can log on to www.stcparks.org and choose to compete in either a weekly or monthly contest — or both.

On a weekly basis, visitors will be asked to identify a mystery photo taken at one of the district’s park sites or facilities. Players will need a keen eye: the photograph could capture a small segment of a statue, a portion of playground equipment, or a section of one of its historic buildings, for example.

A new photo will be posted every Monday, so there are many opportunities to win.

The second online contest is a monthly trivia challenge. On the first Monday of each month in 2011, the district’s website will post a question that tests players’ knowledge of various aspects of the park district — from its history to its facilities, its administration to its various resources.

For both contests, responses are submitted online. Winners will be drawn at random from the pool of correct entries.

The contest is open to all ages, with prizes to be awarded based on the age of the winner and availability of items. Possible prizes will include a free round of mini-golf at River View Miniature Golf Course, a day pass to the new Otter Cove Aquatic Park, or a family hay ride at Primrose Farm.

The St. Charles Park District is commemorating 100 years of service with a yearlong celebration throughout 2011 that will offer a variety of activities for the entire community.

A new logo illustrating this historic achievement was unveiled on the cover of the park district’s winter 2011 catalog and will continue to appear throughout the year on signage, banners and official park district communications.
