Cougars get stung by Bees

BURLINGTON, Iowa — The Kane County Cougars were in control until the seventh inning Tuesday night against Burlington at Community Field, but starter Jason Adam gave up a 2-run homer and the Bees held on for a 4-3 victory.

The Cougars have lost 10 of their last 15 games.

The Cougars’ Brian Fletcher, who was activated from the disabled list before Tuesday’s game and had not played since May 10, delivered a first-inning RBI double that scored Angel Franco for a 1-0 lead.

Brett Eibner of the Cougars (27-37) singled home Yowill Espinal in the third to make it 2-0. It was Eibner’s first hit and RBI since returning from a long stint on the DL. The Bees tied the game in the fourth on a two-out, 2-run homer by Tony Thompson. But the Cougars’ Cheslor Cuthbert delivered a two-out RBI single in the fifth to bring home Alex Llanos for a 3-2 lead.

In the seventh, Yordy Cabrera of the Bees (42-23) homered off Adam (2-2), who allowed 5 hits with 7 strikeouts and one walk in 6⅓ innings. Relievers Mitch Hodge and Chase Boruff combined for 1⅔ scoreless innings.
