You helped maintain local state funding

To the residents of St. Charles,

On May 31, the Illinois General Assembly adjourned after an intense day of debating major issues and approving legislation. I am pleased to report that municipal revenues, known as Local Government Distributive Funds remain intact and untouched, with no reductions to local governments.

On behalf of the city council, I would like to thank the hundreds of residents who took the time to write letters, send faxes and email the governor and all of our elected representatives in Springfield. You reminded them of the significance of these funds coming back to St. Charles to provide the services and programs that allow your city to serve you.

Your response has been nothing short of amazing, and I am grateful and proud to have had your support in this effort.

While the budget has been sent to the governor for his signature, we must remain vigilant, having seen the extreme measures some state elected officials are willing to turn to, in attempting to shift the burden of the state of Illinois’ fiscal calamity from their own shoulders to those of others.

In St. Charles, we will continue to be fiscally responsible with the tax dollars you all provide, while continuing to deliver quality city services, programs and systems, and offer well planned and responsibly funded capital infrastructure improvements. We will make the decisions necessary to ensure balanced budgets, a fairly compensated workforce and appropriate reserves, to maintain the quality of life that makes St. Charles a great place in which to live, work and play.
