Pro tennis tournament in Winnetka

The annual $50,000 Nielsen Pro Tennis Tournament is under way at the A.C. Nielsen Tennis Center’s outdoor courts in Winnetka. Top players this year include American James Blake, who recently lost to Marcos Baghdatis in the first round of Wimbledon, Michael Russel ranked 90th in the world, and American Donald Young ranked 111th. The tournament, which began Monday, also featured New Trier High School’s Robert Stineman, ranked 6th in the USTA Boys 18 Division, who played during the qualifying matches. Matches are in the second round and run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tickets cost $12 to $25. Beverages and food stands are set up just outside the courts. The tournament runs through July 2 at the A.C. Nielsen Tennis Center, 530 Hibbard Road. For information, call (847) 501-2065.
