Local police launch traffic crackdowns

Several local police departments are participating in state-funded traffic enforcement crackdowns timed to the period around the July 4 holiday. Arlington Heights, Elk Grove Village and Rolling Meadows are among towns announcing efforts already under way through Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program grants awarded y the Illinois Department of Transportation Division of Traffic Safety. The campaigns rotate the themes of “Click It or Ticket” and “You Drink & Drive. You Lose.”

Arlington Heights’ effort will include roadside safety checks the night of Friday, June 24, on Dundee Road east of Rte. 53 and the night of Saturday, June 25, on Arlington Heights Road north of I-90. Efforts will include identifying and citing motorists who choose to drive while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, without using safety belts or child safety seats, and who commit other traffic offenses including but not limited to equipment, registration, driver’s license and insurance violations.
