Too many chiefs in one state agency
The Illinois Senate confirmed Dan Seals for the job of assistant director of the states economic agency. He will be paid a salary of $121,029 per year. Not bad in these economically trying times.
After reading the story, I had several questions, so I went on the agency’s website. It didn’t take them long to list Seals as the assistant director. It just goes to show you that there are some things that the state does fast. I didn’t find any answers, but it did raise even more questions.
Who was the assistant before Dan Seals got the job? How long has he or she been gone? How much money did he or she make? What does the assistant do? Do we even need an assistant?
Including Warren Ribley, director, and Dan Seals, assistant director, there are a total of 16 people with director in their title. There are several others with chief of something or other in their title. It just seems like a lot chiefs to me. Of course with all those directors and chiefs there surely must be a lot of lesser bosses. All these bosses have to have a lot of people to boss around.
It sure sounds like a good place to make some budget cuts.
