Music picks: Bob Seger at Allstate Saturday

Like a rock

Bob Seger, the gravelly voiced rocker from Detroit, has been writing and performing for more than 40 years now. His huge catalog of blue-collar rock 'n' roll hits includes such classics as “Mainstreet,” “Roll Me Away” and the sublime “Night Moves.” He's probably best known, though, for “Like a Rock,” which he gave to Chevrolet to support his hometown's biggest industry, and “Old Time Rock 'n' Roll,” made famous in the iconic Tom-Cruise-in-his-underwear scene from “Risky Business.” Seger brings his live act to the suburbs this weekend.

8 p.m. Saturday, May 14, at the Allstate Arena, 6920 N. Mannheim Road, Rosemont. $75. Go to ticketmaster.com.

Local boys

Pop-rock band Good Luck Jane, which features members from the Northwest suburbs, will play in the city next week. Check out this local band known for its heartfelt pop tunes.

Good Luck Jane performs with The Born Ready and The April Year at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, at Reggie's Rock Club, 2109 S. State St., Chicago. $5. Go to reggieslive.com.

On the road again

Boston's The Cars melded the adventurous electronic sounds of late-1970s New Wave with classic pop, and the result was an irresistible string of hits in the 1970s and 1980s. The group has reformed and is touring behind its new record, “Move Like This.” (The band also has secured a spot on this summer's Lollapalooza festival.)

8 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, at the Riviera Theatre, 4746 N. Racine Ave., Chicago. $49.50. Go to jamusa.com.
