Grayslake Central’s soccer program has produced more than 40 collegiate soccer players in the last nine seasons.
The latest are seniors Kat Dickson, Lauren Labello and Caleb Longenecker.
Dickson, the girls varsity’s starting goalkeeper the last four years, will attend Hope College in Michigan, where she will study Spanish and education. A three-time all-Fox Valley Conference selection, she broke her own school record with her 11th shutout of the season Tuesday.
Labello, a three-year varsity player, will continue her education and soccer career at Carthage College in Wis., where Grayslake Central coach Mike McCaulou said the midfielder with “great vision and skill” will provide Carthage with “very good technical skill.” She plans to study elementary education.
Longenecker, a four-year varsity starter for the boys team, signed an athletic and academic scholarship to attend Goshen University in Indiana. An all-sectional and all-conference player for the Rams last fall, he will be studying biology in the fall, as he plans on being a doctor.

Antioch names White new coach: At its April 28 meeting, the Community High School District 117 Board of Education approved the hiring of Jim White as Antioch’s boys basketball coach.
White replaces Mike Skinner.
White has served as an assistant varsity coach and head sophomore coach during the past eight years at Antioch. Before coming to Antioch, White was an assistant coach for one year under Paul Harris at Highland Park.
White’s playing experience includes two years on the varsity at Warren under Chuck Ramsey.
“We feel fortunate to have someone with Coach White’s basketball experiences taking over the program at Antioch,” Antioch athletic director Steve Schoenfelder said in a news release. “Jim has been able to work under two of the top head basketball coaches in Lake County. That was very evident as he explained to the interview committee his ideas for moving the program forward. We feel he will be the right person to allow athletes to have positive experiences while participating on the team.
“You will also see him become involved with the area youth and middle school programs to create an environment that allows athletes entering Antioch to be ready compete at the high school level.”
White also serves as a psychologist and athletic supervisor at the high school.
