Minor delay to River Road reconstruction
Delays caused by February’s blizzard led the Des Plaines city council this week to extend its deadline for the reconstruction of Des Plaines River Road. The project is expected to be substantially completed by July 6, officials said Monday. The earlier completion date was July 1.
The city will pay the contractor a “no excuse incentive” of $275,589 for the work to be completed by July 6. The cost will be borne by Rivers Casino developer Midwest Gaming.
Reconstruction of the 1.5-mile stretch of Des Plaines River Road from north of Touhy Avenue to south of Devon Avenue involves widening, raising and reconstructing the road bed to protect it against flooding from the Des Plaines River.
