Celebrate historic preservation in Geneva
Geneva is celebrating Historic Preservation Month.
At 7 p.m. Thursday city workers and Catherine O’Connor of the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency will present information about the South Geneva Study Area and why it might be a good candidate for designation as a historic district. The area, roughly bordered by the Fox River, Meadows Road, Fargo Boulevard and Cheever Road, is home to a mix of residential architectural styles including Italianate, Gothic Revival, Tudor Revival, Colonial Revival, bungalow and midcentury modern.
The meeting is at the public works department, 1800 South St.
At 7 p.m. May 10 architect Tom Bassett-Dilley will discuss the energy retrofit and rehabilitation strategies used for a circa-1930 Tudor Revival cottage in Geneva. The meeting is at the Geneva History Center at 113 S. Third St.
A walking tour of the South Geneva Study Area will be offered at 1 p.m. May 14 and 6:30 p.m. May 24. Meet at Shady Avenue and Cheever Road.
These events are sponsored by the Geneva Historic Preservation Commission and Preservation Partners of the Fox Valley.
