Farmers market returns to Lake Zurich
The farmers market is returning to Lake Zurich this summer.
The Lake Zurich Area Chamber of Commerce, Lake Zurich Lions Club and village will partner to hold the Lake Zurich Heritage Farmers Market. “We want to build on the fact that Lake Zurich has a real strong agricultural heritage,” said market manager Rob Boyce.
The market will run from 3 to 7 p.m. every Friday beginning June 17 through Sept. 2 at Lions Park.
The Chamber offered a farmers market five years ago, but it closed after three years. Boyce said it was premature to hold a market in the community at that time due to low interest.
Plans to bring back the market began as Boyce held discussions with Village President Suzanne Branding and Village Administrator Bob Vitas last fall.
“We all agreed the time is right now with the downtown setting, the community interest and the number of available vendors,” Boyce said.
He added more people are involved in the green movement, so there will be a better combination of vendors and more awareness in the community about a healthy lifestyle.
Boyce said the market has received approval from the Chamber, Lions Club and village, and he’s waiting to receive the needed permit.
Seven vendors have committed to join the market, Boyce said, and he has received calls from others and expects the number will grow to 20 vendors.
Among the products that will be featured are organically grown annuals and perennials, cut flowers, local fruits and vegetables, prepared organic health foods and organic beverages.
Vendor applications can be obtained at the Chamber office or at the website, www.facebook.com/lakezurich1.
Boyce said he hopes the market will attract many visitors who can check out local vendors and the downtown area.
“The intent of all parties is to make this a signature event for the community,” he said.
