Iowa caucuses are hardly representative

I’m continually amused by all the fuss the media gives the Iowa caucuses. Iowa is a state that according to the 2023 census data is 89.8% white, with residents achieving a college education hovering around a lowly 30%. The state of Iowa also has an inordinately large evangelical Christian population which means it tops the nation in religious hypocrisy. When you stop and think about, outside of Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, and Iowa City (a great college town), Iowa is nothing more than one large Green Acres. Yet somehow we are asked to believe this almost all white, under-educated, religiously hypocritical state represents America, even though recent elections tell us the Iowa caucuses are meaningless. It does provide good folly, though, watching those caucus goers using paper and a No. 2 pencil to mark their choice before putting it into a popcorn tub (or other container), tipping it over and counting the votes. Welcome back to the 1950s.
