D-62 names new principal:

The Des Plaines Elementary District 62 school board Monday night approved hiring Raymond Ruiz as the new principal of Plainfield Elementary School, effective July 1. Ruiz replaces Rene Carranza, who will transfer to Orchard Place Elementary School as principal starting July 1. He currently serves as an assistant principal in North Chicago School District 187. Ruiz was a police officer with the city of Chicago and a social worker with Methodist Youth Services before he became a teacher in 1997. He taught for four California school districts before moving to North Chicago, where he was a general education bilingual teacher. In 2008, Ruiz was promoted to dean of students and then to assistant principal the following year. He lives in Beach Park.
