Knife-wielding man robs Glen Ellyn Walgreens

A man brandishing a knife took about 50 painkillers from a pharmacy in Glen Ellyn Monday, authorities said.

The armed robbery at the Walgreens at 324 Roosevelt Road occurred about 12:30 p.m. The man demanded Opana ER, a medicine taken to control pain. Employees at the pharmacy counter handed over the pills and the man fled, according to Deputy Police Chief Bill Holmer.

No one was hurt, he said.

The suspect is described as a white male, 5 feet 10 inches, between 185 and 200 pounds, with black hair and a black beard. He was wearing a dark jacket and black baseball hat.

Police have obtained surveillance footage of the suspect from in-store cameras, but those images weren’t released Monday.

Anyone with information is asked to call Glen Ellyn police at 630-469-1187.
