Some ideas to cut costs at post office
We all complain about the cost of U.S.P.S. mail. In my opinion the first and easiest way to cut costs there is to change from every day to every other day mail delivery. This would cut cost right from the start. Absolutely no person or business would suffer a serious effect. This could easily be achieved by attrition of employs through retirement, early retirement and hiring slow downs. The same delivery person could deliver mail on A C E G streets on Monday Wednesday and Friday, then B D F G streets on Tuesday Thursday and Saturday.
A second thought would be to stop the idea that each town has to have its own post office. The example of Antioch, Lake Villa, Lindenhurst for example could eliminate the need for three buildings in three towns by building one larger unit. This larger site could be in an area like Deep Lake Rd. and Grass Lake Rd. In this area each village could be served and no one village would be affected more or less than the other two.
Another example of this three buildings into one would be Libertyville, Mundelein and Vernon Hills. The larger site in this example could be on the corner of Butterfield Rd and Allanson Rd.
I realize this concept will not work for every town, but these two examples show it could work for many other situations.
