Lake Zurich’s Boyd, Every to play for North Central
When Lake Zurich seniors Mike Boyd and Tyler Every walked off the basketball court after the Bears’ final game last winter, it wasn’t the final time they’d be teammates.
Turns out they are going to be wearing the same uniform again in college.
The 6-foot-1 Boyd, a guard, and 6-7 Every, a center, have announced they will play for North Central College in Naperville.
“North Central was very high on Mike and they believe he can step in and play right away,” said Lake Zurich coach Billy Pitcher. “Physical strength can often be the toughest adjustment going to the next level, but Mike has excellent strength and conditioning so that should not be an issue for him.”
Boyd advanced to the sectional championship of the IHSA 3-point shootout.
“And with his strength, he has deep range so I think he can be a threat on the perimeter for North Central,” Pitcher said.
Every is recovering from a torn ACL last year.
“Tyler has a tremendous upside and is getting healthier by the day,” Pitcher said. “ With his size and love for the game he can be a real asset to the North Central program.
“Both of these guys visited and talked to many schools but felt North Central was a good fit for them and I agree. It is great they are going together. I am very proud of both of these young men and excited for them to continue their basketball careers.”
Colin Rathe, the Bears’ starting point guard the last two seasons, has committed to Illinois Wesleyan to play soccer. He was an all-state soccer selection in the fall.
Pitcher also said that Bears senior Drake Orser turned down several NAIA and Division III opportunities from schools in Illinois and Wisconsin to attend the University of Iowa. He is considering the possibility of walking on.
Foss into Hall

Women’s tennis
Saint Mary’s College senior Mary Therese Lee (Libertyville) was honored by the College’s Athletic Department at the annual Senior Awards Banquet.
Lee was named the 2011 recipient of the Athletic Integrity Award.
“MT has always been there for her team, whether contributing with her energy, hustle and aggressive play ... cheering for her teammates ... or scaling a gate to look for lost items,” said Belles coach Dave Campbell. “She has been a great leader by example to her team and fellow competitors in the way she carries herself. I would hope that my own children could learn from watching MT. We will miss her so much.”
“Her approach to competition and upholding the goodness in sport carries over into many aspects of MT’s way of life. If you have ever seen her play one of any number of intramural sports, you can see the ‘it’ of integrity. From lending a helping hand to lift someone up from the basketball court to being the first to say ‘good game,’ she plays the way sports were meant to be played.”
Outside of tennis, Lee has been involved in the College’s Toastmasters Club and the Young Executives Club. She has studied in Rome, participated in a Dance Marathon (student-organized fundraiser for Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis) and has been an international student mentor. This year, she is one of her team’s representatives on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
She will graduate in May with a Bachelor of Arts degree in business administration with concentrations in both marketing and finance.
