3 water rescues in Naperville
A 4-year-old Naperville boy is doing well after being rescued from a backyard pool during a neighborhood cookout on Memorial Day.
It was one of three water-related rescues the Naperville Fire Department responded to throughout the day.
The boy was spotted by two children who immediately called for help and attempted to rescue the child, according to a fire department news release. Adults quickly assisted the boy and administered lifesaving procedures.
The fire department arrived on the scene within five minutes and initiated advanced life support care before transporting the conscious and responsive boy to Edward Hospital.
“The boy is doing great,” Captain David Ferreri said.
Earlier in the day, a woman paddling down the DuPage River needed a special rescue when her kayak overturned, separating her from the watercraft, the release stated.
She ended up stranded on an island near Hobson Road and Washington Street near Pioneer Park, and was safely removed from the water by a swift-water rescue team.
On the way back to shore, the rescue team encountered a family of three clinging to safety in their capsized canoe. The fire department secured it with a rescue rope and assisted all three victims.
In both cases, all victims wore life vests and were not injured.
