Wunderlich throws no-hitter
Naperville Central’s Alyssa Wunderlich no-hit Glenbard East on Monday, striking out 11, in the No. 7 Redhawks’ 9-0 win in Naperville. Wunderlich (10-3), who had already thrown three one-hitters this season, allowed just 2 baserunners and retired the last 13 batters. Kelsey Gonzalez went 3-for-3 with a double, drove in 2 runs and scored twice for Naperville Central (17-6, 8-2 DuPage Valley Conference), which pulled into a tie with West Chicago atop the DVC.
Naperville North 4, WW South 3:Sammy Marshall singled in Bella Masini with two outs in the bottom of the 11th inning in Naperville. Masini had reached on an error and with two outs moved to second on a wild pitch for Naperville North (9-9, 4-6 DVC), who scored a run in the sixth to tie it. Rayanna Becker doubled in 3 runs in the second for WW South (17-12, 5-5).Wheaton North 1, West Aurora 0:Paige Evangelista slugged a solo homer in the fifth and Kahla Nolan (10-4) struck out six in one-hitting the Blackhawks. Katie Thornton went 2-for-4 with a double for the Falcons (12-8, 6-4).Downers Grove North 7, Glenbard West 2:Brittany Nagy#146;s two-run double keyed a four-run first, the No. 5 Trojans scoring all with two out in Downers Grove. Kendall Ryndak (11-1) struck out five in five shutout innings, Sarah Anderson was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI and Katie Hunzinger 2-for-3 with an RBI for Downers Grove North (22-2, 7-1 West Suburban Silver). Rachel Hitzeman was 3-for-4 for No. 20 Glenbard West (17-5, 5-3).Glenbard South 10, York 0:Lisa Bartha belted her first two homers of the year, driving in 4 runs, then went deep in her first at-bat against Fenton later that evening, a 13-1 Glenbard South win. Danielle Chitkowski (4-1) struck out three and doubled against York, and doubled twice against Fenton for the No. 9 Raiders (15-4, 8-0 Metro Suburban).Benet 6, St. Viator 0:Allyson Staats (16-8) struck out six in a three-hit shutout and Julianne Rurka homered, drove in 2 runs and scored twice for Benet (18-9, 8-5 East Suburban Catholic).
