Metra Platform Phase 4 improvements to begin Oct. 20
Demolition, Reconstruction of Southeast Portion of Platform Included in Final Phase
Construction on Phase 4 of the Naperville Platform Improvement Project, which includes demolition and reconstruction of the southeast portion of the platform, is scheduled to begin Thursday, October 20, pending weather or unforeseen construction complications.
During this final phase of the project, 4th Avenue at Ellsworth Street will be closed to accommodate construction staging since there is limited access to the southeast portion of the platform. To allow for this closure, 4th Avenue will be open to local traffic only and will be temporarily converted from one-way eastbound to two-way traffic to maintain access for 4th Avenue residents during the project. Upon project completion, 4th Avenue will be restored to one-way eastbound traffic flow.
Because a portion of the bicycle parking located on the south side of the train tracks will be unavailable, bicyclists will be asked to use bicycle parking located in other areas around the station. The sidewalk located on the south side of 4th Avenue and the pedestrian tunnel under the tracks will remain open throughout Phase 4.
All construction is weather dependent; notice of schedule changes as well as more information about the project will be posted to the City's website at www.naperville.il.us/metraplatform.aspx.
The Metra Platform Improvement Project involves removal and reconstruction of the north and south platforms of the Naperville Metra Station. Construction is slated for completion by January 2012.
