Men accused of helping plan Waukegan bank heist
Two Wisconsin men have been charged with helping plan the armed robbery of a Waukegan bank in February.
James Bey, 61, and Trevor Gregory, 26, both of Kenosha, have each been charged with one felony count of conspiracy. They were arrested at their homes Wednesday without incident by FBI special agents.
Authorities say the two men recruited another man to rob the Associated Bank at 1 South Genesee St. and supplied him with a pellet gun, laundry bag, hat, gloves and cellphone.
David Schoenhaar has been previously charged with the armed robbery, in which about $221,000 in cash was taken.
Officials said Schoenhaar entered the bank near closing time on Feb. 10, armed with a handgun, and ordered bank employees into a basement bathroom. They remained there for several minutes before calling police.
Waukegan police officers apprehended Schoenhaar near the bank, after they noticed him walking the street wearing only a T-shirt in freezing weather.
Schoenhaar was charged with the robbery, and his case is still pending in federal court.
During a court appearance Thursday, Bey and Gregory were ordered held without bond by U.S. Magistrate Judge Jeffrey Cole until their next appearance on Tuesday.
If convicted, the men could face up to five years in prison.
