Chicago Fire still alive in playoff race
WASHINGTON — Diego Chaves and Sebastian Grazzini scored in stoppage time and the Chicago Fire beat DC United 2-1 on Saturday night to preserve its slim playoff hopes.
Chaves and Grazzini scored just minutes after Dwayne De Rosario put United in position for the win with a 90th-minute penalty kick.
The Fire (8-9-16) must win its last game and have New York lose, plus make up a 5-goal differential in the process to catch the Red Bulls for the 10th and final spot. D.C. United (9-12-11) and Portland also remain in contention.
Grazzini struck first in the comeback, taking a layoff feed from Gonzalo Segares and finishing past a diving Bill Hamid from about 15 yards.
