Getaway driver strikes two employees at Lowe’s
A getaway driver fleeing an Arlington Heights Lowe’s parking lot struck two store employees who were chasing a thief who had hopped into the vehicle Wednesday afternoon, according to police.
Authorities said a man ran from the store at 990 W. Algonquin Road with two power drills and jumped in a white, late 1990s model SUV, possibly a Chevy Blazer, around 2:23 p.m.
Police said an Asian woman in her mid 20s was driving the vehicle and she struck the employees as she was speeding recklessly through the parking lot to escape.
A 66-year-old Rolling Meadows man and a 31-year-old Elk Grove Village man were both taken to Northwest Community Hospital to be treated for their injuries, said Arlington Heights police Cmdr. Michael Miljan.
The 31-year-old was treated for a broken hand, and the second man was treated for an undisclosed injury, police said.
Both the driver and thief remained at large Wednesday night, Miljan said.
The thief was described as a Hispanic man about 28 years old and wearing a white shirt and dark jacket, according to police.
Police said employees saw the woman make a large loop in the parking lot before swinging by the store exit as the thief ran out.
