Arlington Heights should pass on slots
As reported in the Daily Herald May 3, excellent questions have been raised about endorsing a plan to add slots and video games to the racing venue in Arlington Heights.
The Rev. Jeffrey L. Phillips of St. John’s UCC and Judith Royal and others asked the village board to consider the economic and social impact of looking to this method of finding revenue for our village.
Let’s consider the history and character of Arlington Heights and resist the temptation to prey upon people’s weaknesses to support the common good.
Let’s send a strong message to our state legislators as well that Arlington Heights is a community of people who are willing to take responsibility for their own well-being without being dependent on activities that do not add to the good of the whole.
