Mundelein molester sent to prison

A Mundelein man was sentenced to six years in prison Monday after he admitted molesting a 13-year-old girl.

Francisco Garcia-Gasga, 31, pleaded guilty to criminal sexual assault during a hearing before Lake County Circuit Judge Daniel Shanes.

Assistant State’s Attorney Victor O’Block said Garcia-Gasga molested the girl in his home in the first block of South Chicago Avenue between August and October of last year.

Police were called when the girl told her parents and a hospital examination confirmed she had been molested, O’Block said.

Garcia-Gasga was arrested after an investigation by Mundelein police. He has been in the Lake County jail on $500,000 bond.

He was originally charged with predatory sexual assault of a child, but O’Block agreed to reduce the charge in exchange for Garcia-Gasga’s guilty plea.

Shanes told Garcia-Gasga that because of his guilty plea and conviction, he would have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
