Girls soccer / Lake County roundup

Skyler Jessop and Emily Schrader each scored twice, as Grayslake Central’s girls soccer team defeated Crystal Lake Central 4-2 in the teams’ Class 2A regional semifinal at Grayslake Central on Tuesday.

Grayslake Central (14-6), the top seed in its four-team regional, advanced to Friday’s 4 p.m. final.

Alex Wilson, Kelly Jay and Jessop had assists for the Rams, while Hope College-bound keeper Kat Dickson made 4 saves.

All the scoring came in the second half.

Grayslake North 4, Woodstock North 1: At Grayslake Central, the Knights got goals from Chelsea Olson, Jaclyn Brennan, Kelly Meyer and Katie McGrath, as they advanced to Friday’s 4 p.m. Class 2A regional final against Grayslake Central.

Katie Lahera, McGrath, Melissa Hohensee and Kim Shurtliff had assists for Grayslake North (9-10-1), while keeper Brooke Sauer made 2 saves.

“From the second the whistle blew, we went about things the right way,” Knights coach Adam DeCaluwe said. “We closed Woodstock North down quickly and made certain that they had to earn every inch of the field. As a result, we found ourselves with the ball more often than not. Our possession had purpose and intent and allowed us to create several attacking opportunities early on.”

Rolling Meadows 4, Carmel 2: At Carmel, the host Corsairs lost their Class 3A regional opener.

Carmel ends its season with an 11-6-3 record.
