Adam strong in Cougars’ 4-0 win

Jason Adam worked 8 innings of 3-hit shutout ball Sunday, and Travis Jones homered and scored twice as the visiting Kane County Cougars blanked the Beloit Snappers 4-0 at Pohlman Field.

The Cougars are 5-1 against Beloit this year and 5-1 so far on their 10-game road trip. They also have won nine of their last 12 games and have won four straight series.

Adam (1-0) notched his first professional victory, walking none and striking out six.

The 19-year-old retired 10 consecutive batters and 16 of his final 17 to give the Cougars’ their fifth 8-inning effort in the last 23 games.

Chase Boruff logged a perfect ninth in a nonsave situation.

The Cougars, who have not trailed at any point in the series, took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on Jones’ first home run of the season.

Ryan Stovall doubled home Gerard Hall in the third for a 2-0 score, and Hall and Alex Llanos hit consecutive two-out RBI doubles in the fourth to make it 4-0.

The Cougars have played nine straight games that have been decided by 4 runs or fewer and are 7-2 in that span.
