AL honors for Sox shortstop Ramirez
White Sox shortstop Alexei Ramirez was named American League Player of the Week on Monday after hitting .417 (10-24) in games through Sunday.
In all, the 29-year-old Ramirez collected 6 doubles, 1 home run, 9 RBI and 6 runs scored during the week. He led the AL in RBI and doubles and ranked second in slugging percentage (.792) and fifth in on-base percentage (.481).
Ramirez matched his career highs with 4 hits and 5 RBI on Sunday against the Los Angeles Dodgers, which led to a 8-3 victory. He was 3-4 with 2 doubles, 2 RBI and 2 runs scored in Saturday’s 9-2 win over the Dodgers.
It is the first career weekly honor for Ramirez and third this season for a White Sox player. Carlos Quentin was named AL Player of the Week for April 1-3 and Paul Konerko shared the award for April 4-10.
