Elgin
Ÿ The volunteer coordinator for Elgin’s Community Carnival fundraiser was arrested and later charged with battery after pushing someone at about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in a tavern in the 200 block of Douglas Avenue in Elgin, according to police reports. Anthony P. Pedote, 40, of the 1400 block of Plymouth Lane in Elgin, told police he was helping set up the carnival and asked one of the employees to move his vehicle so a fence could be installed, reports said. The man responded he would not move his vehicle and went into the business’s kitchen. Pedote later told police the man was holding a kitchen knife during the argument that followed. Pedote then left the kitchen and when he realized the man followed him, Pedote turned around and pushed him away, reports said. Pedote told police it was because he thought the man still had a knife, though the man and witnesses all told police he did not, reports said. Pedote is next due in court at 9 a.m. May 20.
Ÿ Jewelry with an estimated value of $5,000 as well as $1,000 cash and a laptop computer were among items stolen sometime between 10:15 a.m. and 2:45 p.m. Monday from a home in the 500 block of Laurel Street, according to police reports. Two Nintendo game systems, one Nintendo video game and an Elgin High School class ring were also stolen. A bedroom window was broken on the south side of the home and likely served as the entry point in the burglary.
Ÿ A 47-inch plasma TV, $900 in cash, a GPS unit and three cameras were among items stolen sometime between noon and 4 p.m. Monday from a home in the 1200 block of Sebring Circle. An Xbox 360 and about 17 games, a cellphone, a purse and a backpack, watches and jewelry, two Polish passports and plane tickets to Poland also were missing from the house. Power tools were missing from the garage.
Ÿ A 42-inch TV was stolen sometime between midnight and 9:30 a.m. Monday from the basement of a home in the 200 block of South Edison Avenue. Though four guitars, amps and a laptop computer were also in the basement, nothing else was stolen, reports said.
Kane County
Ÿ An estimated $15,000 in jewelry was stolen between 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. Saturday from a home in the 14N600 block of Timber Ridge Drive near Elgin, reports said. The burglars may have entered the home while the homeowner was gardening in the backyard, reports said.
Ÿ Someone stole a backpack containing about $50 worth of clothing and other items between 6 p.m. April 27 and 8:30 p.m. Thursday from a vehicle in the 100 block of Memory Lane near Carpentersville, reports said.
Ÿ Someone broke into Foxview Grocery and Liquor, 6N559 Route 25 near St. Charles at about 11:43 p.m. April 27 and stole six packs of cigarettes and three bottles of rum, a total value of $101, reports said. The burglar broke a window and eluded the alarm but was caught on camera, reports said.
Ÿ A 2005 Lincoln Navigator was stolen at about 1:50 a.m. Sunday from, the 14N600 block of Route 25 near East Dundee, reports said.
