At a glance: The Reds (23-17) took two of three from the Cubs earlier this month at Wrigley Field. They swept the Cardinals on Sunday and now hold first place by 1½ games in the NL Central. Volquez went 5 innings to beat Garza on May 6. The Reds’ Joey Votto entered Sunday fourth in the NL in batting, at .345. Cincinnati was second to the Cardinals in runs scored, while the Cubs were 11th. The Reds were 12th in ERA, while the Cubs were 15th. The Cubs (17-21) were 3-6 at Cincinnati last year. Marlon Byrd is riding a 15-game hitting streak (21-for-58, .362) for the Cubs. Darwin Barney was 11-for-30 (.367) on the homestand, and Starlin Castro is 12-for-20 (.600) in his last five games following a 2-for-25 slump.
