Mike Jackson’s outdoors notes
I assume many of you are as frustrated as Iam with the current weather conditions. I was away for two weeks, and when I returned last week the temperature took another nose dive. But Friday may hold some promise.
Fox Chain: This is really walleye weather. And some anglers are finding nice fish in Pistakee by trolling crankbaits as well as jigging big shiners in 8 feet of water. The crappie action is holding its own on Channel Lake. Look for dead end channels and work them later in the afternoon. Try Lake Catherine for muskie activity.
Fox River: Water levels not as bad as one would expect. Check the lay down trees close to the banks for smallmouth and catfish.
Lake Michigan: The salmon picture is not as bad as some have painted it. Coho are being found in 35-55 feet of water due east of Diversey Harbor. Perch action is slow. In East Chicago, Ind., you’ll find smallmouth in shallow water.
