Grayslake North 18, North Chicago 0 (5): Grayslake North was up 9-0 after two innings in cruising to a win in its regional opener.
The Knights (13-18) rolled up 15 hits, including 3 by Andrew Soulis and 2 apiece from Adam Gomski, CJ Bailey and Nick Stanfel. Both of Gomski’s hits were doubles. Meanwhile, Bailey got the win on the mound for the Knights. He racked up 5 strikeouts in three innings and allowed just 1 walk.
Deerfield 14, Grant 9: Deerfield put an end to Grant’s season in regional opener action. The Bulldogs weren’t able to capitalize on some impressive individual performances. They got a 4-for-4 effort out of Jordan Villareal. He also finished with 3 RBI.
Meanwhile, Jared Helmich had 2 home runs , notching his fifth and sixth homers of the season. He also drove in 4 runs for Grant.
And Jake Ring and Brent Spohr had 2 hits each for the Bulldogs. Ring also had a stolen base, his 39th of the season. Ring broke Grant’s steals record earlier in the season.
