Judge rules father who killed son was insane
A Will County judge has found a Romeoville man not guilty by reason of insanity in the drowning death of his 18-month-old son.
The Chicago Tribune reports that 29-year-old Chidi Esi was convicted on Monday. His son was drowned in a bathtub after the baby was fed antipsychotic medicine. A court-appointed psychiatrist found Esi’s schizoaffective disorder didn’t allow Esi to understand his actions.
The boy died on Oct. 9, 2009.
The Illinois Department of Human Services will evaluate Esi and report back to the judge in June. There then will be a hearing on what mental health treatment he should receive.
