Lombard's water, sewer fees to increase

Water and sewer services are about to get more expensive for Lombard residents.

Beginning June 1, residents will see several increases on their bills, according to an ordinance approved Thursday night.

The operation and maintenance rate will increase 60 cents on each bill for all customers. The service charge on each bill will increase 35 cents for customers who receive water and sewer services and 18 cents for customers who only receive sanitary sewer service. The cross-connection control surcharge also will be 25 cents higher.

The higher rates are necessary to offset a smaller amount remaining in rebate funding from the DuPage Water Commission, according to a budget memo from Village Manager David Hulseberg. The village received a rebate of $2.2 million from the commission in 2007 and has been using it ever since to offset water and sewer service fee upticks.

Some funds from the rebate still are available and will be spent until 2013. The village is spreading out the remaining rebate money so fee increases also can be spread out, instead of jumping drastically all at once, according to the memo.
