Bulk brush collection begins May 1
No Fall Brush Collection Being Offered
In May, City of Naperville residents have the opportunity to dispose of large quantities of unbundled branches and tree trimmings at no cost. As a reminder, the city no longer performs a fall bulk brush collection.
The city is divided into four collection districts. Each district collection begins on Monday and takes one full week to complete. The schedule for May 2011 is as follows:
• Homes with garbage collection on this day Monday need to place brush on the parkway by May 1; collection will occur one time during the week of May 2-7
• Homes with garbage collection on this day Tuesday need to place brush on the parkway by May 8; collection will occur one time during the week of May 9-14
• Homes with garbage collection on this day Wednesday or Friday need to place brush on the parkway by May 15; collection will occur one time during the week of May 16-21
• Homes with garbage collection on this day Thursday need to place brush on the parkway by May 22; collection will occur one time during the week of May 23-28
Brush must be placed on the parkway the Sunday before collection begins in each area. Brush collection crews will make only one pass in each neighborhood; brush put out after the crews have passed will not be collected.
Brush must be properly prepared for collection and meet the following specifications:
• Branches must measure between three and eight feet in length and be no greater than six inches in diameter. Shorter lengths may be bagged or bundled and placed out on garbage day with a yard waste sticker attached.
• Branches should be stacked neatly on the parkway with cut ends toward the street. Brush piles that are badly tangled will not be collected. Branches with thorns should be placed in a separate pile.
• Brush must be placed only on the parkway in front of a home. Branches along busy side streets or rear frontages will not be collected.
• Brush piles must not be tied or bundled.
• Willow whips, small twigs and vines must be placed in paper yard waste bags with a sticker affixed for collection on a resident's garbage day.
• Brush containing nails, metal, stones, vines, willow whips, root balls, stumps or lumber will not be collected. If brush contains anything other than branches, it will not be collected.
• Residents can dispose of firewood pieces and stumps with their normal garbage. Please note that there is a 32-gallon can and 60-pound weight limit.
A tag will be affixed to any brush pile that is not picked up explaining why it was not collected. From now through December 16, residents may also dispose of bagged or bundled brush each week through the city's weekly yard waste collection program. More information about the weekly yard waste collection can be found at www.naperville.il.us/yardwaste.aspx.
