Walk and Roll event kicks off in Elgin

The American Cancer Society invites you to the 2011 Walk and Roll Fox Valley event Saturday, May 7, in Festival Park in downtown Elgin.

The funds raised through this one-of-a kind event help the society provide services and programs to support cancer patients and their families, partner with researchers to advance the search for a cure, educate the public on ways to prevent and find cancer early, and create a world and community with more birthdays.

Walk and Roll Fox Valley is a noncompetitive, 5-mile walk, 10-mile inline skate or 15-mile bike ride to raise awareness and funds to fight cancer and to provide hope to all people facing the disease.

This year, nearly 600 participants will join together at the event and will raise more than $77,000 to support the American Cancer Society’s lifesaving mission. Registration begins at 8 a.m. Registration for all participants ages 17 and older is $15; free for ages 16 and younger. Most participants aim for a goal of $250 or more, and anyone who raises at least $100 will receive a free event T-shirt.

Participants, survivors and caregivers are welcome to help in the fight against cancer.
