Warren Twp. High to stage ‘Aida’

Warren Township High School Theatre Department is staging performances of “Aida,” a pop-rock musical created by Elton John and Tim Rice.

Performances will be at 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, April 28-30, with a 2 p.m. matinee Saturday, April 30th, at the O’Plaine Auditorium, 500 N. O’Plaine Road, Gurnee.

“Aida” is a classic story of star-crossed lovers set in ancient Egypt. Aida (Ivy Ford) is a Nubian princess captured by the Egyptian army and made a slave.

Because of her innate pride and independent spirit, she draws the attention of Radames (Dylan Kroll), leader of the Egyptian army. The two fall in love despite Radames’ engagement to Amneris (Kayla Zenner, Marissa Vlaming), daughter of the Pharaoh (Stephen Londo).

This multicultural musical features ballads and choral numbers as the lovers are forced to choose between love for country and love for each other.

Tickets, which are $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors, may be purchased online at wths.net or at the box office before each performance.
