Application information meetings set for Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity Lake County will host three informational meetings, including one in Spanish, for families interested in applying to purchase a Habitat house.
The homes are sold for no profit with a 30-year, interest-free mortgage. Habitat will be building in south Waukegan, North Chicago or Zion. Families interested in a Habitat house must attend one of the meetings in order to apply.
All of the meetings will be at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 320 Grand Ave., Waukegan. Participants are asked to go to the rear basement; the church is wheelchair accessible.
Meetings in English are from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 16, and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, April 19. The meeting in Spanish is set for noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 16.
Applicants need attend only one meeting, but must be on time and stay for the full two hours to receive an application. Children may not attend the meeting.
Applicants must be Lake County residents and legal U.S. residents whose current housing is substandard, overcrowded or otherwise seriously inadequate. A yearly income between $26,300 and $49,600, depending on family size, is required and families must be willing partners with Habitat by working 500 hours on the construction of their house or other Habitat needs.
Habitat for Humanity International is a nonprofit, ecumenical, Christian housing ministry that seeks to eliminate poverty housing by building and rehabilitating simple, decent houses using as much volunteer labor and donated materials as possible.
The Lake County affiliate was founded in 1989.
