Leave faith to the churches

This is in response to John Boelens’ March 29 letter stating his opinion that creationism be taught in schools. He and I do agree on one thing; he has faith in an infallible God. I would like to remind him the definition of faith is “firm belief in something for which there is no proof.”

Mr. Boelens should acquaint himself with the evidence supporting scientific theory of evolution before he suggests that one has to have “faith” to accept it. Using the old canard that evolution theory asserts an ape suddenly turned into a human is a straw man argument and patently dishonest.

Perhaps, along with teaching biblical creationism, we should give equal time to teaching Islamic, Indian, Native American, and countless other widely held faith-based beliefs. They all share the same “evidence” of faith and should be given equal time.

A much better idea is to teach science in science class and leave teaching faith beliefs to the churches, mosques, synagogues and tribal elders.
