Elgin motorcycle accidents send 3 to hospital

Two separate Elgin motorcycle accidents sent three people to the hospital Saturday, police and fire officials reported.

At 5:20 p.m. Illinois State Police and the Elgin Fire Department were called to the eastbound lanes of Interstate 90, just east of the Fox River Bridge, after a motorcycle rear-ended a car driving 60 miles per hour, Elgin Assistant Fire Chief Dave Schmidt said.

Both the motorcycle driver and the woman riding with him were ejected from the bike. The driver went through the back window of the car he rear-ended, acting Master Sgt. Julio Serrano of the State Police said. His passenger landed on the roadway.

Both were transported to Sherman Hospital to be treated for what Serrano characterized as “nonlife threatening injuries.”

Schmidt said three passengers in the car that was struck were treated and released at the scene for minor injuries.

Earlier in the afternoon another motorcyclist was taken to Provena Saint Joseph’s Hospital after he lost control of his bike and spun out, Schmidt said.

The accident occurred at 2:52 p.m. on Route 20 just west of Highland Woods Boulevard.

The driver’s injuries were minor, Schmidt said.
