Elk Grove police to collect unwanted prescription drugs

The Elk Grove Village police department will participate in the second National Take-Back Initiative on Saturday, April 30, along with law enforcement agencies across the country as part of an effort to remove potentially dangerous controlled substances from homes.

Residents will have an opportunity to turn over expired, unwanted, or unused pharmaceutical controlled substances and other medications to the department.

Last September, more than 242,000 pounds — 121 tons — of prescription drugs were turned in as part of the nationwide initiative.

Participants may dispose of their medication at the Elk Grove Village Police Department, 901 Wellington Ave. Collections will be accepted from 10 a.m. through 2 p.m.

Liquid products, intravenous solutions and syringes will not be accepted. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.
