Children channel Chagall at DuPage kids’ museum

An interactive exhibit at the DuPage County Children’s Museum in Naperville introduces visitors to the work of 20th Century artist Marc Chagall.

Continuing through April 26, Chagall for Children features 15 reproductions of the artist’s best-known pieces, including “At the Circus,” “The Birthday,” and “American Windows,” as well as several original works on special loan.

Organizers said the hands-on exhibit invites children to explore their own creativity through the use of color, texture and shapes Visitors have the opportunity to create mosaics, weave tapestries and — through a special video setup — even see images of themselves in Chagall paintings.

“It’s been very well-received,” said Alison Segebarth, the museum’s marketing and membership director. “We want to make sure everybody that can gets to see it before it leaves.”

In connection with the exhibit Friday, the museum, 301 N. Washington St., invited students from seven area high schools to create window panels inspired by Chagall. Visitors can vote for their favorite at www.dupagechildrensmuseum.org.
