What part of ‘illegal’ don’t you get?
This letter is in response to the article, “Officials want more control in illegal immigration fight,” published March 29.
If this is the kind of control Kane County Sheriff Pat Perez wants, maybe he doesn’t understand his job. He seems too upset that the feds are deporting illegal immigrants for minor offenses. Too bad, Mr. Perez. You were elected sheriff. It should be clear to you. I believe you had to take an oath to uphold the law.
See, that’s the problem — you and thousands of others don’t seem to understand the term “illegal” and what it means. You then go on to state that driving without a license is a minor offense. Tell that to the family that’s lost someone because the driver that killed their loved one didn’t have a valid driver license and, by the way, they were illegal, too. This is one reason car insurance is so costly, not to mention health insurance.
You then go on to say, “Even if he’s not here legally, he’s working.” Yes, he’s working and is probably paid cash, and pays no taxes or maybe he is paid by check and he has a Social Security number that is not his. Now what about that person’s rights?
Identity theft is a nightmare to straighten out. But I guess Mr. Perez does not care about the law abiding U.S. citizen.
This is why the U.S. has such a bad illegal problem. It’s people like Sheriff Perez and lawmakers who don’t understand the meaning of “illegal.” It’s time to quit feeling sorry for these people and uphold the law. I am tired of paying for all of the freebies associated with being illegal. Get rid of them. Send them packing and let’s look out for the United States first for once.
