Words you choose make a difference

I would like to commend the Daily Herald and those legislators who are committed to changing the legal language to relabel terms for those who are “handicapped.” For some time I have had some mobility problems, which I refer to as my being “disabled.” But I can get around fairly well, and I do not consider myself “handicapped” — that is the term others apply to me. In fact, every time I park in a “handicapped” place, which I must do, I resent that appellation on the signs.

Please, public, understand what words can do to affect others and act accordingly.
