CASA Lake County swears in 11 advocates

Submitted by CASA Lake County

Eleven adults who completed 40 hours of classes at CASA University were sworn in recently as officers of the Juvenile Court to advocate on behalf of abused and neglected children in Lake County. They were trained by CASA Lake County, whose 200 volunteer advocates represent more than 500 children.

The graduates were: Ben Sultz, Shirley Root and Lynn Goffman of Buffalo Grove; Sarah Njaa of Chicago; Elizabeth Sammann and Lynn Pedotto of Glencoe; Nancy Jacobson of Highland Park; Kristyn Gibson and Roxy Freel of Wilmette; Amanda Mountz of Winthrop Harbor; and Ann Peterson of Zion.

Advocates can be the only constant person in the lives of abused and neglected children as they go through the multiyear court system to be reunified with their family or to find a new home.

The advocates will monitor the welfare of the children and regularly meet the people in their lives such as teachers, doctors, parents, foster parents and others. Their observations and recommendations are important to Lake County judges.
