Complaint filed over Indian Trails library referendum
Results of the Indian Trails Library District tax increase referendum on Tuesday’s ballot should be voided no matter what the outcome, according to a complaint filed this week with the Illinois Board of Elections by Rob Sherman, candidate for Buffalo Grove village clerk.Sherman#146;s complaint says the library and supporters of the increase improperly used tax dollars to promote the referendum. He objects to information posted on the district#146;s website and sent through e-mail and the U.S. Postal Service.
Tom Simiele, library director, said their attorneys checked the materials before they were sent out.
#147;We are confident we did nothing wrong,#148; he said Thursday. #147;Everything is exactly to the letter of the law.#148;
Sherman also said on his website that the materials #147;lie.#148;
Simiele counters the statements are true. Taxpayers will not see a hike in the library portion of their bills if the tax rate increase passes, because the new amount is equal to library bonds that are expiring, he said.
Indian Trails primarily serves Wheeling and the Cook County side of Buffalo Grove.
Sherman is challenging Buffalo Grove Village Clerk Jan Sirabian in Tuesday#146;s election.
