Move beyond your limitations
“Stretch out your tent curtains wide, do not hold back …” #8212; Isaiah 54:2 (NIV)
Limitations are something we all have.
Some are realistic, such as I know I don't possess my son's talents to hold on to the wheel of a huge semi-truck and navigate it down the highway, or fix the constant dripping of a leaky faucet like a plumber.
But I do have some unique talents of my own. But in order to reach my full potential, I've had to overcome some limitations to develop and use them.
More than 30 years ago, when I was studying to become a nurse, taking a speech class was one of the requirements. I'd rather do anything but get up in front of a room of people and speak.
Little did I know that in my profession as a nurse and Christian speaker, God was going to challenge me to overcome that limitation. God informs us of the spiritual principle of stretching beyond our limitations.
As a nurse teacher, I had to overcome my comfort level to follow my desire to be a childbirth educator. In the beginning, I had to learn to manage my emotions of fear. With each word I spoke, I could feel my heart pounding wildly in my chest and my mouth becoming so dry I could hardly speak as I taught a large group of parents-to-be.
Sometimes my fearful emotions even left me speechless. As time went on, the challenge to overcome my limitation persisted.
As a nurse manager, I conducted staff meetings with a large group of medical staff. Little by little, facing my fears I was able to conduct a successful meeting and succeed to fulfill my purpose.
Over the past several years, I have had new challenges and limitations to overcome in order to fulfill my dreams. This month I will be stretching myself again as a public speaker, and fulfill my dreams to overcome some physical limitations that have held me back.
Maybe you are in need of some encouragement to fulfill a deep desire or dream waiting to be released.

This spring, as the flowers are pushing through the hard ground to fulfill their purpose and become a thing of beauty, why not look at some areas that are holding you back?
Pray about what God would have you do and then take a nice healthy stretch.
